Joao Maria Gusmao and Pedro Paiva (1979/1977 Portugal)

今年のベニスビエンナーレのアーセナルの会場で見ました。(2013)作品がありすぎて個々の作品の記憶がすぐに薄れてしまうのが、大きな展覧会の常ですが、このデュオ作家の18ミリサイレンとフィルムはしっかり覚えています。フィルムは1つでなく暗室に5、6ほど投影されていたので、どちらかというとフィルムインスタレーションの印象でした。 ビデオでないフィルム独特の雰囲気の中で照らし出された ”妙” な映像は、これは何なんだ?という 疑問とともになぜか引きつけられます。男の人がひたすら卵を積み上げていたり、リンゴのまわりで猿が遊んでいたり、何かの車輪がひたすら回っていたり。。。 何かシンボル的な意味がありそうで、結局そこに答えはないような。。 フィシュリ&ワイスの映像作品に似ていると思うのは、私だけかな。。私だけかもしれません。個人的な印象です。 ”poetic philosophical fiction” 世界は見えているよりも、もっとミステリアスであるのかもしれない。。。だそうです。 ところで、カテゴリー分けするので気づいたのですが、初のポルトガル人アーティストです。今までなぜいなかったのでしょうね。 “Since 2001, João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva have collaborated on the creation of enigmatic, lyrical photographs and sculptures, but most prominently they work in 16mm silent film. Dora García (Spain, 1965, Valladolid)

ドラガルシア、 スペインの売れっ子アーティスト。 売れててもクオリティーに疑問の残るアーティストは多いと思いますが、疑いなしに、いいアーティストだと思います。 ライクスアカデミーのフィリップピロットによるliveイベントに呼ばれていたので、見に行きました。もう大分前なのですが、未だに友人たちの中で話題に出ます。 インスティテューショナルアーティスト、という形態のアーティストの中でも、provocativeな作品を作り続けていける人だと思います。パフォーマンス後のフィリップとのトークでも、ファッキングという乱暴な言葉が随所に入っていました。普通できない。。かっこいいですね。 youtubeでパフォーマンスを流していたので、ここに乗っけます。これ、ベニスのスペインパビリオンでやっていたやつのはずなので、貴重! http://metropolism.com/reviews/what-a-fucking-wonderful-audienc/ http://www.frieze.com/issue/article/notes-queries/ 彼女が作品で借用した、アンダーグラウンドフルムメーカーのジャックスミスも、題材として、選択に間違いがありません。おもしろいので、もっと調べてみます。。

Edward Lear (1812 – 1888,UK)

シュールという言葉を調べていて、発見した作家です。日本でシュールなものって笑えちゃったりしますが、西洋にもシュールユーモアって昔からあったんですね。日本でいう俳句や川柳のようなリメリック、フォームのある詩を始めた人でもあります。 でも、日本のお笑いの”シュール”とは、(時代が違うから比べるのも無理があるのかもしれないけど)ちょっと違うかなと思います。日本のお笑いのシュールってほんとに訳が分からないけど、こちらはナンセンスといいながらも、何かの隠喩がありそう。。

Louise Lawler ひたすら他のアーティスト作品のプレゼンテーションの写真を撮ります。美術館での展示途中の作品や、コレクターに買われた有名作家の作品がどんな風にリビングルームに飾ってあるのか等、この作家の方法論自体が既にユニーク。 このかたのfilm作品, A Movie Will Be Shown Without the Pictureを今度始めて見に行ってきます。 かなり楽しみです。。。
